Lagos State Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday turned the sod of the upgrading of the N15 billion Lagos Island Business Central District (CBD) roads to be reconstructed into a high standard event as he blamed the neglect and decay of the state on past successive governments at the centre.

The project is expected to be completed within 18 months. He said that the project would also provide about 10 thousands job opportunities for various categories especially the youths comprising miscreants, area boys among others.

The governor at the event held at Tinubu Square, said while Lagos State continued to produce a substantial portion of the national wealth, little or nothing was ploughed back to maintain and improve her infrastructure, on which the entire country is dependent.

The project which will be done in two phases includes: Broad Street; Old Marina Road; Nnamdi Azikiwe/Tinubu Square, Ereko/Martins Street, Custom Street, Tinubu Street, Bamgbose Street, Alli Balogun, Odulami Street, breadfruit street, Campos street, in phase 1 while in phase 2 includes: Idumagbo Avenue to Third Mainland Bridge ramp, connecting loop between the end of Broad street/old Marina and Adeniji Adele Street through Ebute Ero with provision made for concrete wall to screen off the roads to be carried out include standard vehicular carriageway; improved drainage sections with rapid discharge gradients, wider and convenient walkways, parking spaces without traffic hindrances, fully functional street light as well as maintained botanical beautifications and litter proof basket bins. On each completion each road will be manage by corporate agencies.

he lamented that Lagos State was particularly left to rot until his administration got into power six years ago to provide and improve on the erstwhere poor infrastrucure.

According to him, the project is imperative given the immense benefits to the whole state. In addition, the attraction of investment, particularly the redevelopment of the Marina axis through the Marina City project, will further boost the rating of the state metropolis under the new partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD) city forum."

He continued: "Today we are laying the foundation of a more prosperous Lagos. we are raising our beloved state to new heights of excellence comparable to the best international standards.
